ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Vinessa and I’m a 2nd-year Curtin University student who is currently in the process of completing her double degree in Arts (Professional Writing and Publishing), as well as Commerce (Marketing).

 

Ever since I was a child, I’ve been passionate about writing books, and I’ve dreamed to become an author one day — I’ve also been an avid book reader since I was young. And now, I’m making my childhood dream come true by studying to become a part of the writing industry and I am determined to successfully pursue a writing career despite the stigma against this industry. In my spare time, I love writing stories on the Apple Notes app and creating a collage that relates to my story — and of course, I love to read books in any genre, but my favourite genres are true crime and historical fiction (occasionally I do like to dabble on some romance books!).

I was born in the Philippines and immigrated to Australia in 2009 when I was 7 years old. I lived in Victoria for 3 years; for the first 6 months, I was situated in Geelong and then moved to Ballarat, which are both 100km away from Melbourne. When I went to primary school in Ballarat, I remember we would focus so much on creative writing, and I thoroughly enjoyed putting my thoughts onto paper. A lot of authors would come and visit my school, which inspired me to chase my dream of becoming a writer. This led me to collecting notebooks and writing stories in them as if it were my own published book. In 2012, I moved to Darwin, Northern Territory and spent 10 years living there. In Middle School, I won the NT Chief Minister’s Literacy Awards in the ‘Most Imaginative Written’ category. And then in 2022, I moved to Perth, Western Australia where I’m currently doing a double degree in Professional Writing, and Publishing and Marketing.

Throughout my life as an aspiring writer, I’ve always told myself to pursue my passions and happiness. Reading and writing is what makes me happy and ignites a passionate spark within me, and I’m looking forward to my ongoing journey of becoming a writer.
